Essex History And Background

Over the centuries Essex has been the destination of many visitors some friendly and some not so. Essex has been historically the preferred destination of many hostile invaders, including armies of Romans, Normans, Vikings and Saxons, although for the modern visitor Essex is relatively safe from pillaging, these ancient visitors have left a very distinguished trail of architecture, artefacts and ancient towns to enjoy.

There is an exceptional castle in Colchester that was built on ancient Roman ruins (circa AD44) and dates back to 1100. This spectacular castle now operates as a museum and is home to interesting objects and informative facts and figures to keep the many visitors transfixed. There are various tours that can be taken where guides can paint a glorious picture of ancient life in the 2,000 year old area.

Whilst in Colchester it makes sense to make a trip to Colchester Leisure World, this will give the whole family a much needed opportunity to let of steam whilst enjoying the Aquafun flume rides and rapides.
